Poorly girl- i cant work out whats wrong.

Recommended Posts

Ever since i went away for 4 days and someone else looked after my chucks, my girl Strut hasn't layed an egg, thats about 2 weeks ago now. I wasnt that worried till today as one of my other girls has only laid one egg in two weeks as well.

But strut was a bit wobbly on her feet earlier... she is eating and drinking well, and has been running round, but has also been napping out in the open which isnt usual, then we just looked at her and the colour has gone right out of her wattles. She is in a box in the front room at the moment. She doesnt gasp or gape, she is feeling skinny but has been wormed and like i said she stopped laying at least 2 weeks ago but up until then she was laying every day.

Is she really ill, has something spooked her? Any ideas please.

I would recommend that you worm her with some Flubenvet. Several people on this forum seem to have experienced problems whereby they've wormed regularly with Verm-X only to find that their chickens have worms regardless.

You probably know this already, but red mite only go onto the chicken at night and hide in their run etc during the day, so the time to check for red mite is night time. You won't spot them in the day time at all.

I agree about the Flubenvet. Verme-x is useless imho. I would re worm her with Flubenvet.

Budgies is right about the redmite. I would check the eglu for signs of redmite....clusters of tiny red blobs if they have 'eaten', grey cigarette ash like deposits if they haven't. Wiping over with a white piece of kitchen paper will reveal red streaks if mites are present.
