alet_chicken Posted May 5, 2009 Share Posted May 5, 2009 Hi We are growing some potatoes in grower bags on our back porch. Last year the girls left well alone. Unfortunately little Madge discovered our young potato plants over the weekend, and helped herself to quite a lot of potato leaf before we noticed. (We caught her inside the grower bag, with the others standing round in a circle, watching ) OH put some canes up to prevent a repeat performance, but alas! today we found Mabel stealing some leaves. (Plus they've trampled her rose, so the chickens are well and truly in the dog box.) Now I know potatoes are poisonous. We will move the potato plants soon (for fear of the monkey birds killing them completely), but do we need to worry about what the chickens have already eaten? I don't think any of the culprits can be accused of listlessness at the moment (roses and potatoes being out of reach, they are out destroying the rest of the garden), but I will keep a keen eye.
