Found this in the nestbox today. Any idea what it is? It's soft like a piece of meat... all a little bit disturbing.

Btw, it's a lot smaller than an egg. The size of a 50p.

it's an undeveloped egg, basically a lump of protein. Have you got an older chicken?

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. I started worrying that it was an ovary that they has laid as it seemed to have blood vessels on the inside... Agnes is over three now, maybe it was her.

Nope, you're safe there! They only have one ovary anyway.

Hahahaha! We haven't had an egg in weeks... from either of them. We're getting a soft one every day though, despite the expensive exbat feed.

 

One ovary, eh? How fascinating... maybe I should switch back to thinking of doing Veterinary Medicine rather than normal Medicine
