OwenLdn
Hey everyone, I was wondering why do you have to separate the hen away from the rest of the flock when the chicks hatch? Do the other hens act aggressively towards them? Will they kill the chicks? Thanks Owen
feemcg
The mother hen should protect her own chicks, but they could be attacked by others. Let's face it, the farmer that runs a large flock of mixed hens and several cockerels doesn't go around separating all the broodies into separate runs, but I suppose people with small flocks want to minimise the risk.
