Recommended Posts

I had my first 3 chickens 14th Feb 2009 at 12 week old, One has ben laying since the 21st April. Another layed her first !egg! today but it's soft. Do i need to do any thing different or just be patient :?:

i already add baked egg shell.

Congratulations on your eggs!!

Some girls do just lay a few softies until their egg laying gear gets going properly.

As long as they have access to plenty of grit (both soluble and insoluble) and are eating mostly either pellets or meal/mash (in which case, mix the bag thoroughly as the calcium particles sink to the bottom) then there's no need to worry too much.

Hopefully she'll start doing proper eggs in a few days for you.

HI I am new to chickens and one of mine kept laying softies for a few days (they were ok inside unless they had fallen through the perch..my dog ate them as I couldnt be bothered) noting wrong with them so you could eat them.

Mine have access to grit/oyster shell and the last couple of days I have no softies.

They are on layers. I just put it down to them firing up....

When i had ducks i got a few strange eggs to begin with.

The chickens are healthy so just put it down to the hormones settling down...(i know the feeling)!!! indie
