mrs chook
Hello I haven't posted on here for a while. I have Bertha from an older pairing who was head girl. We got Cassie Light Sussex and Margot Speckledy last year, they're just over a year old now. Bertha has recently had competition from Cassie who I think is gonna be top girl. The pecking isn't too bad really just the odd chase and reminder. I had been thinking of getting two new pol to make it 5 girls, but don't know if now would be a good time or a bad time, given the hierarchy rearranging going on!!! ted
May be a good time as the attention could be taken away from the new arrivals?
mrs chook
That's a good point! I was just fearful of making the situation worse in any way...I hadn't thought of it like that
ted
I always think that if you are going to go through all the grief then it may as well just be once... It is probably worth getting another view as I am not the most experienced. Eggluntine and claret are both very good...
Egluntyne
Adding one is quite difficult as he unwanted attention is all focussed on that particular hern. I'd get 2. Article on managing intros **here**
mrs chook
Hi Egluntine, long time no chat. i remember I got advice on intros for this time last year, and very successful it was too! I would definitely get another pair not one. I would quite like two bantams but am unsure due to size difference with the others and also because of their reputation for broodiness. As it is, I end up giving quite a few eggs away to friends but I just love keeping the hens and I suppose if we got inundated I could sell them (the eggs NOT the hens ) My husband collected a bed from someone on freecycle recently and even he came back full of enthusiasm as they had some pullets, cream legbars and another kind to obscure to remember!?!
