fruit cage

Recommended Posts

We've spent all day making a cage to go over our gooseberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants. I'm sure it has cost more than the fruit could possibly be worth for the next 5 years but oh well. We've run out of netting so will have to finnish it tommorow.

Sounds like me and my raised beds plus netting - I'll need to grow veg till I'm 100 to break even :lol: .

Perhaps you can help me - I have raspberry canes (for the first time ever) which are just up against the wall of the house. Will I have to make some sort of netting protection for them? When will I need to do this - when the fruits are about to appear or earlier? (Can you tell I'm a novice  .)

You need to cover fruit before it starts to go pink - blackbirds eat them just and hour before you think of going to pick them

The percentage of fruit lost to birds is really high - something like 80% We've had so much mor efruit since having a big fruit cage. We need to put the roof netting back on now as we have a few ripe strawbs. now.
