sandramate Posted June 2, 2009 Share Posted June 2, 2009 I'm hoping someone can help me. My hen Mib ( my son named her!) had a bleed from her vent and a trapped egg last June. She spent a few days feeling poorly, we had a few failed eggs but she perked right up. The problem is that she constantly has white liquid dribbling from her vent. Her poos are normal with a lovely white cap. We get the occasional runny one. The white 'discharge' seems the same as the white cap. It smells like ammonia. It collects around her vent feathers constantly. I wash it off frequently, the skin around the vent can be quite red. The feathers get quite matted, some fall out. I spray her with the purple spray - this stops our other hen Yoghurt pecking at her red bits! She did continue to lay but as time has gone on we got a lot of soft eggs. She hasn't started laying again after the winter. ( I think we've had a few softies) Mib is very lively, healthy red comb, eats and drinks well, alert, friendly, apart from the vent and lack of eggs she seems fine. I'd love to be able to sort this out for her, my main priorty is to know she's ok. She's one of the family. The girls are about to be wormed this week. There are no lice, mites etc at the moment. They both eat layers pellets, chick corn, meal worms and wander round the garden. They also have a veggie mash I make for them. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jenna Posted June 8, 2009 Share Posted June 8, 2009 Hi! My hen has got this as well - her vent area is covered in white droppings, like diarrhoea, but she's perfectly healthy otherwise. Does anyone know if it's painful, or dangerous to her health, or is it likely to sort itself out? And might worming help? Thanks very much! Ros Posted June 16, 2009 Share Posted June 16, 2009 Hello I think mine has the same thing, she seems to always have wet feathers around her vent and down to her belly, bathed her today and blow dried (!) but within an hour she had a soggy botty again, also seems off lay, she has only really laid weird long eggs or softies for some weeks, any answers would be great. My limited research hasn't yeiled any information yet - apart from being told to ring her neck! Not an option. If we all try to find something we may get lucky. Ros Posted June 19, 2009 Share Posted June 19, 2009 I had another look at my chickens rear today..........I can not believe that I am doing this, but i have to say that if she was a person I would say it almost looks like thrush!!! Can chickens get thrush Also she seems to now be moulting, is it due to the warm bath and blow dry I wonder?..........I shouldn't laugh, but really this is getting curiouser and curiouser!
