Help, we are preparing an area of our garden for an eglu. The plan is to place it on soil with wood chippings, reading some articles on this website im concerned now that perhaps i should slab an area. Any advice would be great

 

Can i also only have two chicken with the run size that comes with the e

glu without extending it. I am looking at hybrid birds at present

Hello, yes they will be fine in the basic run. Some swear by chips on soil some by chips on slabs so either are fine. :D

 

If they are on slabs just rake away the chips and you can clean the slabs and put some safe disinfectant down.

 

On soil rake away chips, dig over soil and use some safe disinfectant and a bit of garden lime to sweeten the soil.

 

You will need a bit more chips on slabs to make a 3-4 in depth but on soil you can get away with having it shallow and top up when needed. :D

 

The disinfectants usually mentioned on here are Stalosan F or Biodry but I am sure there are others.
