lounut
my ex bat developed egg peritonitis and was luckily operated on and speyed at the same time by my vet three weeks ago, she has been like a different chicken since and has a new lease of life, im just a little concerned today to find she is displaying some broody behaviours and is making a nest bless her. does any one have any ideas and do they still get these instinctive urges?? the overies and reproductive organs were all completely removed so there shouldnt be any hormones involved?? Egluntyne
Hello lounut and welcome to the forum. Have moved your post to the chickens section where it will get more viewings. Interesting problem you have there. Perhaps the instinct is inbuilt rather than being caused by hormonal urges.
house-elf
my ex bat developed egg peritonitis and was luckily operated on and speyed at the same time by my vet three weeks ago, she has been like a different chicken since and has a new lease of life, im just a little concerned today to find she is displaying some broody behaviours and is making a nest bless her. does any one have any ideas and do they still get these instinctive urges?? the overies and reproductive organs were all completely removed so there shouldnt be any hormones involved?? Hi, I am not sure if this is possible, but I have seen a spayed "Ooops, word censored!" have a phantom pregnancy after being spayed - the reason was that although spayed, she must have been releasing hormones at the time of neutering, hence the season / pregnancy symptoms and that was 2 weeks after she had been neutered. If chickens are the same, then that could be a reason.
