hello and help

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new here, and have only been keeping chickens for 3 months.

I have a question but was not sure where to post it, so here goes: yesterday we noticed that one of our girls is listless, has diarrhea, and was drinking a lot of water but not eating. Today she is still listless and is laying down a lot with her feathers spread out. She had a full crop this morning before feeding time. She does not seem to be drinking as much water today, but I have seen her eating small amounts of food. Her crown is still pink but it is floppy and not standing tall like the other girls.

Can anybody please help?

Thank you.

Have your hens been wormed yet VeggieSue? If they've not been wormed it might be an idea to give them a seven day course of Flubenvet added to their food.

However, with the drinking lots too I would be tempted to take her to the vet - it sounds as if it might be kidney related.

Hello again and thanks for the advice,

I am pleased to say that my hen now seems to be doing just fine - she is eating, drinking, there is no diarrhea, and she is generally doing her usual stuff. Her crop was empty this morning.

To answer a few questions, no they have not been wormed yet, so I will get on to that ASAP. And yes, they had been eating long grass, so maybe a piece had gotten stuck.

Thanks again for the advice. I am so happy that she is back to her normal self :)
