Pedro1962
Right, I thought I'd get my silly of the day out of the way early. Are PoL hens fully grown or will they get much bigger as they grow older?
Daphne
No such thing as silly question True POL birds are more or less fully grown. However, soft feather heavy pure breeds (eg cochin, orp etc) do grow or fill out a bit more but not much - they may not be fully 100% mature till 12-18 months. In most hybrid cases you won't notice. However, some birds are sold as POL when in fact they are a few weeks off it - and then they might still have a bit of growing to do! ubereglu
Most of the time chickens are fully grown when they're at POL, unless they're pure breeds, but they will still grow a little bit if they haven't yet laid, as Starlet grew quite a bit in the two weeks we had her before her first egg. Hen Watch
Can only tell you about hybrids as that's all I've got. They were pretty much fully grown at POL. They've filled out a little more and obviously their headgear gets bigger and redder, but apart mine were roughly the same as they are now. Stella (amber star hybrid) at 16 weeks old. As she is now at 2 years old.
