chixandthecity
Hello I wonder if anyone can offer any advice. One of our hens has been off colour for the past few weeks. Basically, she was poorly about a month ago and we thought we were going to lose her, then she laid a 'lash' and was much better. After that, she was fine for about a week, then she went off colour again. She's been up and down ever since, either laying nothing for days in a row or laying strangely shaped or soft shelled eggs. Only yesterday she laid one which was almost cuboid in shape. Today, she is very subdued and the feathers round her vent are covered in sticky white goo. She has also been passing sticky, egg white-like goo today. She went to the vets when she was first ill and she had antibiotics and has been wormed. It's not nice to see her so lacklustre. She was always very feisty before but has lost her pizazz! We don't know how old she is, but suspect she's no spring chicken (ha ha) so perhaps she's just coming to the end of her laying life. Egluntyne
It sounds as if she could be. Maybe the illness has taken its toll. I would give her a tonic and some extra calcium and perhaps expect to wait till after her next moult to see some eggs again.
