Sandychick
Hi, I've not been on here for ages, but I have a very sad looking chicken (Willow) who is laying shelless eggs. She first looked quite ill on Tuesday, layed some yolk and stuff on Wednesday morning and then looked to be back to her normal self. But by Wed evening she looked awful again and is still the same today. She is in the run on her own at the moment with a bowl of porrage pellets with a heap of limestone mixed in - not really eating much at all though. Can anyone suggest anything else I could do to help her? I'm not sure how usual it is for this to carry on for a few days? Should I be worrying a bit or a lot??!! Any help / advise would be great as she looks really miserable
theherd123
Try not to worry and you have done the right thing by adding limestone flour to her feed as it seems she needs more calcium. Perosnally i have found limestone flour to take a while to work so i prefer a liquid calcium - you could try this if you like. Keep a close eye on her and make sure she is eating & drinking and im sure she will perk up soon.
Egluntyne
If you are giving limestone flour, it is also a good idea to add a dollop of cod liver oil to their pellets as it contains vitamin D3 which is essential for calcium absorption and metabolism. Sandychick
Thank you both - I didn't know about liquid calcium but that certainly sounds like a good idea. Will add some cod liver oil tomorrow too Thanks lots
