Plymouth Rock Chick

Recommended Posts

Hope someone can help as I am new to keeping chickens and just to start the hard way, hatched the chick from eggs. We have 3 chick from 6 eggs, two hens and 1 cockrel but who hatched last Friday. They have been in the brooder for a week now, but the chick mash they are eating now appears not to be substantial enough for them. Although very happy, the hens in particular, have their bowel movements stuck to their rear and I feel it is time they have some more solid food. Could anyone help please.

Regards Ktb

Welcome to the forum. :D

It is important that you keep their bottoms clean. They may end up with a condition calle

d 'pasted vent' which is serious. Give them a gentle clean with warm water as often as they need it.

Chick crumbs should be more than adequate for them for several weeks.

Thank you for all your help, I now have chicks with clean bottoms, but it was not easy. Will have to do this everyday. Do the adults have this problem too?

Regards Ktb (and amy thanks from Ruby Dizzie and Roman The Rock Chicks)
