Bells
Hi there, I have 2 chickens (gingernut and miss pepperpot) and i'm starting to get a little worried about them. We went on holiday for a week a few weeks back and so took them to my mums to look after (the first time we've not had a neighbour looking after them). They stopped laying with her after a few days and the miss pepperpot was showing signs of broodyness. I thought it was just due to being transported somewhere new. We've now had them back 3 weeks, no eggs at all although neither are sitting on the nesting box. They're pulling feathers out on their chests at quite an alarming rate and just seem off- not exploring like they would normally do, eating maybe a little less (although I'm sure they are still eating enough) and lying around a lot. Can anyone suggest what they think is wrong and what we could try? We really are desperate to have them well and get some eggs again soon!! Thanks
Bells
Hi, I've just been out to look at the girls and I think rather than then pulling their feathers out they're actually moulting. Lots of feathers fell out of the miss pepperpot when I picked her up. I've checked their skin and it doesn't appear to be red or sore and couldn't see any parasites. I've just treated them with Verm x and will also dust them with red mite powder tonight. I've still no idea what is causing this though and why they've not laid for nearly 4 weeks now??? Egluntyne
It could be the stress of the two moves that have upset them.
