yvette
Hi I wondered if any one could answer my question. I am new to hatching ducks, my indian runner ducklings are 4 weeks old, they have been going outside in the day for a week or so with a shallow dish of water etc to splash around in. I have come home to day to find two of them shaking,I wondered whether they have got cold and what I should do about it? I thought that ducks were meant to be easier and hardier than chickens, I am used to chickens. thank you! yvette
Lesley
I have no idea why your ducklings are shaking - are they any better today? You may be better asking this question in the Practical Poultry forum where they have many duck keepers. I do hope you find an answer. TheChookKeeper
Hello Yvette, I too am new to ducklings - I hatched a couple of Indian Runners out 2 months ago today. I noticed that they shook too - I noticed it both inside and once they started going outside. I couldn't attribute it to anything in particular - we have a boistrous male Silver Appleyard who chases them, but they didn't seem to shake after an "encounter" with him... nor after a bath in the cold water of the pond... it seemed pretty random. The first time I noticed it I assumed it was because they were too cold - but at that point, they were almost cooking under a heat lamp in my spare bedroom! I'm afraid I can't really give you a perfect answer, only say that I too have noticed it, and mine are nice and grown up now (more or less!), and are in perfect health, never had any problems with them at all. I noticed them shake a bit yesterday... and it was BOILING outside... they still chose to sit in the shade, under a tree, so I am wondering if maybe it's something to do with growing up... or maybe when their legs get tired... who knows! Sorry I can't be of more help!!!
