ails
Hi there, I have been looking at various options for creating a walk in run for our girlies. Pre laying, moving the eglu run around the lawn everyday was fine but now that they are well and truly in laying mode the lawn doesn't tend to survive a day of concetrated attention from 3 hens. I priced some of the wooden chicken walk in runs which came out quite expensive. I just wondered if anyone had opted for or considered using any of the mesh dog runs that are available on the web. http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/item--Easy-Assemble-Mesh-Dog-Runs--mesh-dog-run---dogs I know they are not as attractive as wood but I guess they will require less maintenance. quickcluck
Hmmmmmmmmmm I'd worry that the holes are too big, incase a chook should get her head caught or if she poked it out foxy might bite it off Have you thought about self build? There's an excellent sticky about it on here........ and shows lots of different runs people have designed themselves...... you can also buy aviary panels which have a heavier gaged mesh, it should be at least 16 or 19g to make it fox proof the cheapest is from Hill of Devon... Good luck and keep us posted!
Redwing
You can get wood and mesh panels ready made quite cheaply off ebay including door panels, they just screw together the dig kennels look good but you would have to line the sides with a smaller mesh, having said that it still might work out quite cheaply, Hills of Devon is good for weldmesh
Jules.
I think it looks quite good. You would have to fill in the big holes in the wire to a height of about 4 feet, perhaps chicken wire on each side of the fence would work? I presume that the existing metal links are really strong to stop a dog biting through them, & so would automatically stop a fox.
