Three French hens, Six Cats, One Dog (Admin), And Me!!

Recommended Posts

(hatch) Anyway, thought I'd give a quick progress update having had my girls and Egloo for a year now. We're all very well, Admin has been reinstated, you may remember, he was demoted due to various indiscretions, tractor, lawnmower, neighbour's geraniums. But has redeemed himself now so is fully fledged again and out with clipboard inspecting village, before dropping in for a spot of lunch with my lovely French neighbours who are convinced Admin is a reincarnation of their spaniel. As Admin isn't a spaniel, think the fact he lies down in front of tractors, and barks at anyone who dares to come through the village without permission may be the reason.

Anyway my wonderful girls are still laying although Nigella PP is having a bit of a break at the moment, but think I saw her heading purposefully towards Egloo so think there may well be an egg in there later. Other two are fine, except little Delia GNR has had a chest infection. Went to see Vet who had been up all night with a sick Limousin Cow, and after he'd stopped laughing at my expression, when he suggested she might make some soup!! He gave me a file of antibiotic, several syringes and a somewhat surprised looking chicken who was incredibly brave whilst having an injection. Off I went to inject her every morning for 6 days and report back. After three days, she'd got wise to the injection, and nipped smartly out of my reach, I'd never realised a chicken could be so speedy. They have a very big area to run about in, and I was somewhat startled when I heard someone laughing, to realise one of the farmers was going past and must have wondered (and not for the first time) what on earth I was doing wearing a dressing gown & wellingtons holding a syringe and chasing a small red hen whilst trying to make encouraging noises followed by the other two, who obviously thought that the syringe was some sort of strange food. Anyway thought the best course of action was to wave as if it was all perfectly normal and carried on.

Delia recovered well, and although she's had another chest problem since, the sight of the needle seems for some reason to work wonders!!!

Admin was left in charge the other day as I had to go out. Came back and thought he was looking a little bit strange as seemed to be in a sort of fixed position to find he'd got his head through the chicken fencing (absolutely brilliant stuff Omlet), and couldn't get out. Was demoted back to Acting Admin again, as caught sort of red pawed, but has managed now to redeem himself although still looks embarrassed when slight hole (now mended is pointed out to sniggering friends. Chickens took it in their stride although Clarissa GNR still has a go at him, obviously chickens have slightly longer memories than I've given them credit for.

Cold snowy winter, and now we're in a hot summer which is lovely. Vegetables are growing, and girls enjoying afternoon treats. The Tour de France is apparently heading past our village in July so shall ensure girls, and Egloo are duly spruced up in case of photo opportunity.

Hope you all have a good summer, love Yolko :D(pink eglu)(pink eglu)(pink eglu)
