beckyfitz
Ok, so I've been trying to read up on making compost. I know I shouldn't put meat or dairy or cooked veg in, but some articles say no animal faeces - does this include my chooks/duck dirty bedding? I see this is also sometimes mentioned as 'manure' - do i have a separate heap for 'manure'? Or can I throw it all in together to make compost? Can I just dig in chook/ duck poo into the soil I'll be growing my veg in? And what about my duck swimming water that is 'polluted' - could this be used to water the garden? Many thanks! Valkyrie
It generally applies to dog and cats - someone will probably know the proper reason why they can't be used. I would think the duck water would be OK on the garden, but you may have to dilute it further in case it is too strong for the plants. If you dig the poo into the soil without letting it rot down it will definitely be too strong for the veggies, far better to let it mingle with other composted waste and let it all rot down before using. We found the chicken poo does help rot things down quicker, along with a timely turning to keep the little critters do their work.
