Dolly
One of our girls is limping a bit and her left foot 'pad' is raised in a lump. The scales on the lump are hard and slightly raised but there's no obvious injury or blood. She's otherwise ok, is eating etc and showing no signs of being ill. Does anyone have any experience of this or suggestions what it could be and how I can help her? Many thanks
chelsea
It could be a condition called Bumblefoot where the foot looks swollen or puffy. Bumblefoot requires antibiotics from a vet, best to nip it in the bud before it takes hold.
chelsea
there is a photo of Bumblefoot on this thread - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38601&p=594147&hilit=bumblefoot#p594147 it is usually caused by bacteria getting into a cut.
Dolly
Just got back from the vets but she didn't really know what it was and prescribed an antibiotic 'Septrin' in case that would help. Said a minor cut/s"Ooops, word censored!"e could cause a larger reaction than you'd think ie. the swollen foot pad. Bit disheartened really as I was hoping for a bit more reassurance than I got - perhaps I was expecting too much? She said if it wasn't giving her too much of a problem walking, then she'd probably have to 'just walk with a limp'!! Does anyone have any experience of good clued-up poultry vets in the Gloucestershire / Worcestershire areas that I could try if it doesn't clear up?
