Depends on many things. Age and breed for starters.

 

Some breeds are autosexing, ie the boys have different feathering to the girls from the off.

 

As the chicks grows secondary sexual characteristics develop, which enable you to tell if it is a cockerel or not.

 

Do you have a chick that you are unsure of?

Not yet but I am going to try and hatch some eggs in an incubator because I have got other chickens and I love them! !eggcream!
