Anyone used Aspen as bedding?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is more a duck question really, but I suppose applies to chooks too, and this forum is a little more lively!!!

I currently keep my ducks on Easibed (which I believe many of you use?), I got it on recommendation from this forum in fact.

WELL, one of my other pets include 4 corn snakes (and now 11 babies... someone forgot to tell my two boys they don't lay eggs  )

Their bedding is called Aspen. It is similar to easibed, but SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.

Just wondering if anyone's used it, and has any other info to pass on about it? It is supposed to be super absorbant - which is why the snakes have it, as it sucks up any water that shouldn't be there before they get mouldy!!!

Thanks!

I use Aubiose in my cube nest box and made a nifty little contraption to cover said hole :D

I copied the idea from a forum member (Claret? or Cinnimon  ).

Basically you get a plastic milk bottle and cut a flat piece big enough to cover the slot with an inch or so overlap all around. Then i pierced three holes along the centre line and pushed through three bolts. the bolts make it heavy and keeps it in place. I will look for a pic for you :D

Here you go...we had a chat about this here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45088&p=685838&hilit=cube+hole#p685838

Ah, fantastic!

That really is quite obvious

I can hardly wait to try it this weekend - I use straw at the moment, which is horrible - the only straw my local shop sells is all horrible and dusty - makes a right mess of the garden.

Is it weird that I'm actually quite excited at the prospect?!? :anxious:

Not weird at all....welcome to our world  Simple solutions to "big" problems are enough to send me into a frenzy of excitement...some would say I'm easily pleased  !

Once my Orpie is off the nest I'm off the measure the hole.....!

Thanks Em for bringing the solution back to the fore!
