Plum
Wonder how many turned out to be boys? and whether each time they took 2 boys back they came away with another half dozen chickens and couple of ducks?
sami
haha quick update then, before I go to bed! The Maran was a female.. or rather didn't start crowing, so I'd guess she was a girl Unfortunately we lost her during some really cold weather. The shed has now been insulated, with shower curtains to keep the cold and wet out. We're gutted. Morag was one of our favourites.. the one we had from the youngest, and she was really tame. We did end up with another Aylesbury.. We'd gone to collect some chickens from someone, and he had a lone male he'd been keeping for someone else who didn't want him any more. So he gave him to us, to live with our girlies.. Everything was fine until October when a fox got hold of him, and one of the girls. They killed the male, and dragged one of the females round the front of the house. It was her screaming that alerted us, at 4am. And of course, my miserable neighbour complained, and we had to rehome the girls. They are now living with a friend. The chickens we have left (the foxes also got hold of my lavender araucanas, and we lost a few more in the wet/cold) are: Cochin - Bertha Buff Orpington - Korma Blue Orpington - Maggie (Madras) 3x ExBatts - Madonna, Rosie (Rosemary) and Dor (Tandoori) Silver Laced Wyandotte Bantam - Lady Rhode Island Red - Ginger Crested Cream Legbar Light Brahma Black Rock - Rousseau The rhode Island red gets straight out of her pen when I let them out.. and wanders around the garden.. sometimes she knocks on the back door, and we give her some bread, or whatever we have to hand in the kitchen We're planning on getting some more chickens once the weather turns nice again. At the moment, the garden is pretty much mud, so it's not great!
Plum
Thanks for the update, it's good to hear what is happening. Well not for the losses, that is really sad. It must have been a traumatic time for you Great mix of chickens you have there and as predicted have increased. Enjoy them
