Chicken chasing new bantams - will she stop?

Recommended Posts

Hi

First off, apologies if this is a daft question - I'm a first time chicken keeper - and poster! Basically we had two Gingernut Rangers, Dixie (the older one) and Minnie (the younger one). At the weekend we added two Pekin Bantams (Maude and Dulcie). Initially both the hybrids were chasing the Bantams but Dixie has stopped now and is quite happy following them round the garden. Minnie however chases them as soon as she catches sight of them. They go to bed fine but I'm having to get up at like 5.30am-6am to let them out because they're fighting in the eglu. Dixie will come out first and then Minnie but then Minnie will chase the little ones back into the house - we end up having to lift them out of the egg hatch. So getting to my question - if we just leave them to it will she eventually stop or could we be looking at this being long term? Is there anything we can do to stop Minnie chasing them? Is the only solution a new coop for the bantams?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for that - I wish I'd had the common sense to search for advice before rather than after! Do you think it will be okay if we go back to basics so to speak? I suppose it can only improve Minnie's relationship with the bantams! At the minute Minnie's shut in the run whilst the others are free-ranging and it seems so mean on her!

Thanks
