arwenskye
my 2 remaining hens have survived another fox attack but only just! they both have feathers missing and a wound on their backs-what do I do? We've bathed them and checked them over but have now left them for the night in the hope they might recover, one has made it up the steps to the nesting box, the other is still cowering under the hen house
Redwing
You need to minimise the effects of the shock, bring them in and put them in a cardboard box of bedding and keep them warm (a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel will be good if you have one) If you have any rescue remedy give them some in a drop of water Keep them in the dark for a while so they rest Later gently bathe the wounds with some salt water and spray with gentian violet (purple) spray if you have some. offer water and a little treat food Main priorities warmth and darkness though
Ms Tilytinkle
Dear arwenskye Just to say how awful for you & your chickens. So sorry. Hope you're able to do all redwings suggests that tomorrow you have stronger, more calm recovering chickens. Bless Ms Tillythoughtsandprayerswithyouall. arwenskye
thanks for the advice. I took them to the vets this morning and they are now on antibiotics and sleeping in the nesting box, they are very weak, so I'll just have to take it 1 day at a time. I don't want them to suffer so will just see how they go over the weekend
