4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi

 

For the last few weeks every time we check the egg port there are broken/sabotaged eggs. They are not soft shelled but there is a small hole that has been pecked(?) in the top.

 

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have read that some people empty the egg contents and fill the shell with things like mustard then pop it back in the nest, then when the egg eater has a peck and gets a mouth full of mustard she thinks twice about it the next time.

Although I've also read that some hens don't mind the mustard!! Plus, even when you find something they hate, you have to keep doing it for a few days.

 

I think it might also be worth going down the bumper bit route so that they cannot use their sharp beak to pierce the shell.
