do right?

I went online and bought four really healthy looking thyme plants from Halcyon Plants. They advised me to prune them to establish sturdier plants. I potted them up and pruned them back by about a third. Put them all on sunny windowsills with other herbs.

Without prior warning, one of the thyme plants almost completely died and I'm worried about the rest.

Although I have very successfully grown rosemary and sage, thyme has not been in the same league.

Any advice? Thyme is a wonderful herb and I'd be so pleased if I could make the plants prosper!

I have placed my pot of time next to my cube so that the girls can just reach it... I rotate it every day or so this way they keep it pruned for me and the herbage does them some good!

Good luck! I have found Thyme pretty hit and miss in the past but the one I have now seems to be doing really well!

Have got loads of spare seedlings if you are around this way! They gave out free thyme seeds around here as part of a road safety campaign

I think in general thyme likes fairly well drained soil, not too rich. If you have rosemary growing well anywhere, it will enjoy the same conditions.

eh? Thyme? Road safety? Is it me, or is there actually a really obvious connection...??

no it was such a lame connection - packets of thyme seeds with

Take thyme to look when joining and leaving the A540 Chester High Road

Seriously it is quite a dangerous road - another 4 people killed on it 10 days ago, but I dont think a few seeds will make much difference and it must have cost a lot to drop off to every household.

But I do have lots of thyme now, just not lots of time!

If you're raising them for the table, they will be pre-seasoned! My thyme plants have been on the windowsill but I may give your method a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you too, happy chickens, for your kind offer. If I can't keep at least one out of four alive I probably should stick to the stuff that comes in a box!

oooh! I get it now! I was thinking in terms of green spreading mats, rather than the name... d'oh!
