K-F-C
I've just been sat watching the chickens and CiCi just did a really watery poop! Not runny... watery! I've read that this could be a sign that they are too hot or not eating enough... I don't think either is the case. She is eating lots of pellets. She is 23 wks, the biggest of my girls, but has not started laying yet... she seems otherwise healthy! Any ideas? Thanks
vikpow
Have you wormed her? if she's eating and drinking and seems ok in herself it could be nothing to worry about- it happens to my girls sometimes- im no expert though so im sure someone else will come along with advice shortly. do they free range a lot? Cou;d be something they've eaten?
Clare L
One of mine also does watery poos (not sure which one) - I just assumed it was normal, as they all seem to do funny poos at the moment! They have only recenly been free-ranging alot, so maybe it is that if yours have only just started free-ranging as well. Mine are also eating plenty but have not been wormed... Along a similar line, can I also ask a daft question Do chickens wee? I was holding one of our girls and she basically had a wee on me (no poo just wet). So is this normal??? Dont tell me I am only person to have been weed on by a chicken
K-F-C
My understanding is that their wee is the white stuff that you see on top of the poops... and that they should not be emitting just liquid on it's own... hence my concern. Clare L
Yes, that was also what I thought....and why I was very suprised when mine had a wee on me! The wee in question was before they started free-ranging....
vikpow
As you havent had your girls that long it could be that they're just settling in. Mine do some really weird poos sometimes, ive had them now for about 2 months and at the beginning i was worrying about everything- its only natural, especially if like me oour new to chicken keeping. Id keep an eye in them but as long as they're eating, drinking and seem ' themselves' i wouldnt worry to much. Its almost like havng children the amount you can worry about them ! Staffordmum
OK, now I'm feeling slightly and I have read many posts with regards people's poo picking regime. There are few of our girls poos we could actually pick up - let alone want to! We have watery ones and runny ones. Today I noted bright yellow ones - I thought it was yolk at first. I have constantly checked for signs of "wrigglers" (much to the amusement and disgust of OH) - nothing visible ... Yes, they are worked - currently on day 3 of Flubenvet via layers pellets. No, their combs don't look any different and yes, they are eating normally. Yes, they are treated for fleas/lice - we dusted them all the w/e before last. The Cube has been thoroughly washed and disinfected/dusted and is done so regularly. They aren't given too many treats, the odd handful of mixed/sweet corn and some cabbage leaves. One thing OH noted was that they don't appear to be visiting the Omlet Super Glug all that often. I filled a fountain drinker containing some Battles tonic this afty and they were on it like a shot We have 9 hens (aged approx. 2 yrs max.) and are collecting only 2 or 3 eggs daily. Is this normal? We had trouble with a broody but successfully cured her of that - I think! Feeling slightly better having checked out this link :- http://www.chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=17568.0 Rgds, Pat & Steve Edited August 3, 2009 by Guest
eggalp
I think they can get watery poo if they have eaten too many greens. I notice that mine do watery ones if they have been scoffing loads of lettuce, grapes etc. I wouldn't worry about it unless its happening all the time. I've given up trying to keep them off of them now when free-ranging... I'm holding out with the Mooli though... they are not gonna have that!
