alligg Posted August 3, 2009 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Hi I was wondering if anyone had any issues with having several hens wanting to lay at the same time,we have 4 hens and they have just started laying we have had 1 egg a day and wondered if the others would be bothered by an egg already being in the nest box,or will they others go in too and lay when they are ready. hope this makes sense thanks Alli Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Staffordmum Posted August 3, 2009 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Hens will try to lay in nests that already contain eggs, and have been known to move eggs from neighbouring nests into their own. Hens can also be extremely stubborn about always laying in the same location. It is not unknown for two (or more) hens to try to share the same nest at the same time. If the nest is small, or one of the hens is particularly determined, this may result in chickens trying to lay on top of each other.
