Robynne
Help please! I am a Californian transplant to just north of Norwich (near Aylsham) in Norfolk. I have moved to a small holding but don't know where to look for chickens. . .I have had many kinds in the past, so wouldn't mind looking at new breeds, but I would particularly like some white egg layers (American thing. . .come Easter I want some white eggs to decorate!). Any suggestions? Thank you! Robynne

Janty
Can't help North of Norwich but there is a place in Diss called The Hen House. If you need directions then there are plenty of us around this area. Rona has just collected some girls from there and my son's psychotic Rhodie minis came from Hen House. Robynne
Thanks very much. . .if I have to, I will head to Diss, but still hoping someone knows of someone in my area. . .I want to start small and expand a bit and would be easier not to have to travel the hour away. Have their home all ready and looking forward to bringing some ladies home!
zmurffi
Hiya and welcome. I am near Mundesley - I just got my 3 hens the other day, they are so great just watching them. The place I got my hens from doesn't have much left in the way of point of lay hens, depends on what age you want, she may have chicks otherwise you may have to wait a while. Don't know if she has any white egg layers. I can let you have their details and you can speak to them if they don;t have what you want may be ableto point you in the right direction locally. Robynne
That would be fantastic. . .and i would greatly appreciate it. Do I send my email via this forum or some other way? Also. . .do you mind my asking the cost of the hens? My husband asked tonight how many I was planning on getting (we have a large chicken run that could easily hold at least 40) but I said. . .well, that depends on the cost! I know what they are in the mountains of California. . but I have no idea here!
Saronne
Hi and welcome! White egg-laying hybrid hens (at point of lay) generally cost anything from £8 to £15. The variation in the cost might have to do with whether they've been vaccinated (larger breeders tend to do this as vaccinations come in large packs) or not. Merrydale Poultry in Leicestershire charges around £14 for their vaccinated POL hybrid white egg layers. Chicks will be 'cheeper' . Have you thought about incubating your own? That might be the cheaper option if you want a lot and have the space. Best of luck. Saronne x P.S. (I'm a transplanted Yank, too - been here a long time, though).
