broni.jones
hello, i went to collect eggs from my purple cube this mornig only to find red & greey coloured mites swarming all over my cube! mainly around the cranies of the eg port! how have they sudddenly appeared? i thought cubes were mite proof! i clean out my cube every 3 days to remove poo & change nesting straw. i use pet disinfectant every week. where did they suddenly come from in such huge numbers? i brought 3 new girls on the 15th of july, but when i checked them over they seemed fine. i inspect & handle my girls regularly but have seen none of the devils! how can i get rid of them? i was going to go to scats to buy mite powder but what do i treat the house with? is normal disinfectant okay? quickcluck
Hi Broni I'd clean the cube with Poultry Shield, you can get it from your supplier probably. I also sprinke diatom and redmite powder all over my cube.... You should check your girls and dust them also. If you can see lice you may have to spray them also
FoxFighters
I was also wondering where these pesky blighters come from? Fingers crossed I haven't seen any yet and like Broni I thought the plastic construction of the Eglus made them fairly mite proof?!
Ain't Nobody Here
Bad luck . You are less likely to get red mite in a plastic house but it's not unheard of . Here are a couple of threads about red mite you may find useful . http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=48541 http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=48769
