4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi Everyone

 

I have to leave my chooks for a couple of days. I've got someone checking on them on the days I'm not there to top up food and water, but what about opening and closing the door? Can I really just leave it open? The run is secure and as far as I know we don't have a fox problem.

 

Do I need to do anything else?

You'll be absolutely fine leaving the eglu door open the whole time . Plenty of people do this all year round .

Yes you can leave it open. They will be fine. I never close mine.

 

I would make sure that the run is well weighted down to be on the safe side.

yes- just leave it open. i leave mine open all the time over summer as its light so early so they are up around 5am! personal choice i suppose- but they will be fine with the door open.

 

nothing else to worry about as far as i can think

 

although i always leave my relatives a tub of meal worms to throw in near the house to eat while they are getting the glug/grub in and out- as they arent too confident with chickens and it helps prevent escapes!
