dippy bird
Hi, we use bark (on top of dirt) for our run at the moment. It does get really wet and the girls get mucky feet but they like it as they can forage for bugs etc.Our new run which arrives today (yahoo!) will have a roof on, can anybody recommend anything else to use in the run which will keep the girls happy? Redwing
Chunky wood chips are good, personally I mix these with bedmax large flaked wood shavings, my run bedding has been down since March and shows no signs of giving up yet! The specialist horse bedding products are also very good, Aubiose, Bliss and hemcore are examples, they vary in composition but are usually chopped up straw/stems or flax they give a softer surface and are easily composted but need changing more often (still far less than your bark though I would imagine )
jess1merlin
Where do you get your chunky woodchip from Redwing, I have looked in the local DIY shops but can't find any.
Falkor
Sorry to zoom in on the back of Redwings tail feathers so to speak. I picked up two bags of woodchip from B&Q last night
Redwing
Yep, B&Q, the hardwood chips are nice and chunky (mmmmm chunky chips.............) They also do softwood chips that come in bigger bags but look like shreddings so I don't believe they would last as long but even they would be better than bark
