Oh good - an extra day off work, more "free range time" with the chooks!

 

All good, except Flo decided that my butternut squash plants needing moving, got trapped in the netting we put up in the raised beds. OH tried to coax her out - she would disappear round the other side of the bed, tried the other side, same thing happened. Took the netting off, Flo in the middle of the raised bed. Put the netting on...Flo in the middle of the raised bed, now attached to the netting.

 

OH was filling in part of the door frame in the kitchen with white goo in a tub, he came running out to sort out, tangled Flo eventually came out of the netting and promptly stood in the filler "goo" in a pot. Had to pick her up to wipe the "smutz" off her feet (which she did not like at all), lots of clucking, lots of guilt on my part for shouting at her......

Netting back on the veg bed...but for how long...and will tomorrow be "chicken in a net" saga all over again..

 

Going to work is easier (but not as enjoyable).

 

Who said keeping chickens was not entertaining...

I didn't even realise it was a Bank Hol till I tried to go to the bank after work .

 

We get a week on Monday off .

my chicks (6 weeks old) were supposed to come out into the run for the first time today as i was told to keep them in their house for first 5 days after getting them (im new to chicken keeping) so i was all excited this morning fed the dogs first told kids they had to get there own breakfast then off i went down the garden with chicks food put it just outside the house door and went and sat a distance away to watch them take their first steps out in the run well that was 8:30am 4:30pm and i was still waiting for them to venture out they came as far as the door and then jumped back in so i gave up put the food and water in the house and went indoors for a warm i'll try again tomorrow

Don't worry - when they do come out, they will want to be out all of the time. It is worth the wait -they are just amazing creatures.

We are new to chicken keeping, but we learn more about them every day.

they were so funny coz one would come to the door look out then jump back in churping as if to say i'm not going first i was laughing to myself in the garden if anyone had past they would have thought i had lost my marbles
