Rhesus
I'm new to chicken keeping - everything arrives on Tuesday but we've all been ready for a while and the children have their rota ready. We're starting off with a Pepperpot and 2 Rangers in a cube but I want a Sussex as part of the flock. I'm just not sure if sellers are reluctant to sell individual birds or else I will end up buying a shopping list. Anyone any views and are Sussex fairly content and non-flighty as a breed? - Doris - Marjorie - Hilda
laurmurf
most sellers will sell single birds, particularly if they're going to join a few others. Sussex are great big bosomy birds and lovely for the garden - fab layers too. I would get the sussex as soon as you get the other 3 so they form one flock from the very beginning. Introducing a new bird to an existing flock can be an absolute 'mare for all concerned!
Egluntyne
I agree....get them all at the same time to save yourself a whole lot of grief later. I have a Light Sussex hen and she is a lovely, friendly, placid girl.
