PeggySue1
Thought I'd share our discovery with anyone based in Sussex. The Brighton Community Compost Co-Operative provides sacks of woodchip and larger pieces of wood - price negotiable but not expensive - from local woodland. The sacks are about 60 litres and cost £3 if you collect it or £4 to have it delivered but you have to have over a certain amount for them to deliver. We get all our wood from them and the chips dry out really well when wet. Their number is 01273.620389.

squiffs
This link saved my bacon! was looking around desperately for B&Q hardwood chip and it was out of stock in all the B&Qs from Bognor Regis to Newhaven! They're delivering me some beechwood chippings at about 4.75 a bag on wednesday including the delivery - works out at about 24.50 for 5 (their minimum delivery order if you live nearby) - if you live further afield minimum delivery is 10 bags - really cheap and they responded to my email first thing this morning (I enquired over the weekend). So yeah, anyone desperate for wood chippings finding b&q not coming up with anything I would DEFINITELY consider this place. Eco friendly too!
