chooklady
Does anyone keep rabbits and guineas together (small rabbits) We had been thinking about rehoming a rabbit maybe and wondered if they could live together. If anyone does how successful has it been and what combinations of sexes and how many guineas and rabbits are together, thanks for your help. BunnyBunkhouse
Hi there, it's never a good idea for rabbit and guinea-pigs to live together I'm afraid. Both do need company, but of their own kind. This is for lots of reasons including that fact that both have different dietry needs and need to be fed food specific for them. Also I'm afraid many rabbits who live with guinea-pigs turn into sex-bullies, neutered or not, and your guinea-pig will not have a very happy life! There's an article with more information on: http://www.briarpatchrescue.org.uk/care.php?show=RWITHG.
sophia_chicken
I keep a small, laid back male lionhead and 2 female guineapigs together in a rablu. I know some pople don't think this is a good idea but we have mixed them since we were kids and our vet says he's never come accross any problems either! Rabbits and Guineapigs can communicate just as effectively and bond just as affectionately as cats and dogs can.... in fact for a quiet, docile male rabbit like a lionhead guineapig friends are less likely to bully him than a female rabbit. Also.... you will find that the rabbit won't get too much greenary because the guineapigs will pinch it all from him and if you look at the ingredients for guineapig and dwarf rabbit food they are virtually the same nutritionally! You should still feed guineapig food because it contains vitamin C but that won't do a rabbit any harm.
chookwhisperer
I have fed my netherland dwarf on Gerty Guinea Pig since I got her nearly 10 & a half years ago. I had 3 guinea pigs at the time and the bredder said that it was fine. She has outlived them all and is still going strong. My biggest problem now is stopping the chickens nipping into her rablu and nicking the guinea pig food.
