quail house

Recommended Posts

They will sleep in the run if there is cover - quail prefer to live with undergrowth and scuttle about in that. If you have some sort of shrubbery type plants or you add leafy branches to their run then they will use that when the weather is good enough. They will use the house/Eglu in the colder weather or if there is no undergrowth.

We started off with a WIR with lavender bushes but we had to make a concrete base after having problems with rats treating our quail as take-aways :( We add branches but they do use the little house we have in the run for them. Some eggs will be in the house but others we have to look for.

i saw a little hutch thingy where i get my layers pellets, very basic, about 20" square, the whole top is hinged so easy access for cleaning, and has a drop down door / ramp at the front,

will that be ok ? do you need perches and a nest box in the house ?

 just found this thread viewtopic.php?f=63&t=48069&view=unread#unread
