Liz George
Very sadly our mini lop Lola died very suddenly this morning. I have just taken her companion Charlie to the vets for a check up & fingers crossed, he seems ok at the moment. Obviously my immediate concern is that Charlie continues to be well and I would not rush out to get another rabbit until I am certain Charlie has a clean bill of health. But long term, I am worried that he will pine for Lola. So, I just wanted some advice on how long you'd leave it before looking for a companion? Also, I would like to get a rescue rabbit but have heard somewhere (maybe on here???) that the RSPCA do not like Eglus and won't rehome to Eglu owners. Does anyone have any experience of this? And finally, does anyone know of any rehoming centres in Yorkshire that don't mind rabbits living in Eglus? Thanks in advance! Liz

Liz George
Thanks Jen. Can't quite believe how upset I am. Was dreading telling my 5 year old daughter but she seems to have taken it well. Feel so sad seeing Charlie bun all by himself.

Karen & co.
Hi Liz, I don't often come into this section, but wanted to say sorry about Lola We have just had to have my daughters rabbit Hazel put to sleep on Thursday I felt so bad seeing Domino her hutch mate alone, that I went onto the rabbit rehome website that bigmommasally mentioned, and found a lady who had a male found abandoned in Tatton Park that needed rehoming. I know it was a bit quick but my daughter was so upset not just at the death of Hazel but also the loneliness of Domino, that we went to see him last night, and brought him home with us I did a search on our area, and found him listed he is now settling into his run and sniffing Domino through the bars. Slow intro's over the next while and hopefully 2 happy bunnies Good luck in your search. Karen x
jenuk99
Oh sorry to hear your news aswell. Great to hear about the new arrival, fingers crossed it all goes well. Does anyone keep buns in threes to prevent the lone rabbit happening? Jen x
Liz George
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and suggestions. Karen, I'm glad to hear that Domino has a new companion. Well today we have added a rehomed bunny to our family. Her name is Maisie and she is an 11 month old black & white mini lop. We have just briefly introduced her to Charlie and he greeted her very warmly (well, he mounted her to be precise). Just wondered if this is normal behaviour in a neutered male?? He never used to do it to Lola!! Thanks once again. Liz
jenuk99
Hi Fantastic news on the new bun! Mounting is a sign of dominance, Charlie is just showing that he is top bunny. When I got Dougal Mac would do it to him to show she was top bunny, I think the roles have shifted as he does it more than she does now. I put them together in the bathroom as it was neautral and a small area. I water spray is also handy incase they fight, but mine never have. But its all worth it when you see them snuggling. It may also help things along if you rub his bedding hay on Maisie so that she picks up his smell. I also heard the suggestion of smearing some banana on their foreheads so the other bunny licks it off and they think they are grooming each other. It didnt work with mine they would just run off and wash themselves Happy bonding Jen x
Liz George
Jen Thanks for the info on mounting, I suppose it makes sense that he's asserting his authority on his territory. Thanks also for the tips on bedding and water spray. The rubbing banana on their foreheads did make me smile......I can just imagine the buns wondering what on earth their mad human is doing! Mind you.......if its worked for some people, it must be worth a try! Thanks once again for your support! Liz Charlie Maisie
jenuk99
I can just imagine the buns wondering what on earth their mad human is doing! Lol you have met my bunnies then, you can just see them rolling their eyes at me when I try something new. Will let you know if I remember any of the other suggestions I got when I was bonding my two. Jen x
bigmommasally
Great News Liz I think take it slowly before putting them in together, introduce them on neutral territory. And make sure when you put them in the hutch together for the first time that it has been thoroughly scrubbed with vinegar to get rid of any ownership smells.
