Still worried about health ....

Recommended Posts

I have now had our chickens for just over three and a half weeks. Since I got them, one ( PP ) has been sneezing and seems to have passed this onto the other ( GNR ).

I have been using Citricidal and Avipro in their water for over a week and I have also wormed them with Flubenvet. They are on a diet of Omlet Organic food with garlic powder, diatom, poultry spice and Bokashi bran, with regular treats of grapes and sweetcorn. The sneezing and wet beaks have not yet gone and today the GNR has been holding her wings away from the side of her body when she has been standing still, as if she is too hot.

They do otherwise seem healthy and are eating, drinking, dustbathing and free ranging when given the chance. The GNR has not missed a days laying since she arrived and the PP is laying every other or every three days.

Am I just being paranoid, or should I be trying something else?

Late this afternoon in London it was very warm. Do your hens have any shelter from the sun?

How much poultry spice are you giving them - could you be overdoing it?

They do have an Omlet shade over their run and there is plenty of shade elsewhere in the garden. It was warm this afternoon, but not as warm as it has been.

I have been adding 1 tsp of poultry spice to each Kg of feed - is that too much?
