I am pickling some onions and wondered how long before they are ready to eat?

usually you need to leave them for about a month depending on the recipe.

 

Were they hot or cold pickled. I think hot ones can be eaten straight away and cold ones take a month.

The ones I have done so far were cold pickled - i just peeled them and wacked them in sterlised jars and covered in vinegar - so will try them in a month.

 

In the past I have also made balsamic pickled onions that I cooked - they were amazing.

 

I have loads of vinegar left and onions so going to do some more today.

Silly question but can you use jars with the rubber bits in like Kilner jars or is the rubber an issue with the vinegar?

We use big kilner jars for pickles and they are fine but you do have to replace the seals the next time because they smell very pickley.
