ChrisEllis Posted September 27, 2009 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Hi, I suddenly had a worry today, i have been hatching my own chicks and they are now 2 weeks old - do i need to be using any worming stuff or vaccines if so what and when, i'd hate to not be treating them properly? Chucky Mama Posted September 27, 2009 Share Posted September 27, 2009 They generally don't need to be wormed until they come into contact with the the great outdoors, scratching around and pecking in the dirt. Vaccinations for poultry tend to come in huge amounts and so unless you can tag your chickens onto a batch getting vaccinated at a poultry farm or a nearby vet has some left over it would be fearsomely expensive. Jools Posted September 27, 2009 Share Posted September 27, 2009 No. Feeding them medicated chick crumb is a good idea to help them build immunity to coccidiosis, but vaccination isn't necessary - most back garden keepers don't do it.
