We have had a marrow hanging in a pair of tights since last week and it has mould growing on it is this part of the process or not

 

It looks pretty horrible and I was wondering if anyone else had tried it?

That doesn't sound right to me. It's a while since I tried this, and I remember the marrow shrivelling up (given the moisture was drawn out by the sugar and dripped into the bowl below), but I don't remember any mould.

 

I don't know if it would affect the resulting liquid - which will ferment in any case - but I'd probably play safe and try again.

No thats definatly not right!

 

Throw it away and start again. Make sure your new marrow is clean and dry before you fill it and hang it up!!

The liquid that we have got isn't mouldy so we have thrown the marrow away now and put the liquid into a bottle it tastes and smells alcoholic already. We have tasted it and are still alive several days later, so we will see what happens to the liquid now.
