Hi i've been finding feathers in the garden and run, i presume the hens are

in there first moult. its been like this for a couple of weeks now and one hen is definitely

laying less eggs. but they don't look like they are losing feathers, i thought they would lose loads and look really scruffy. how long does a moult last for?

It depends on their age and whether it is a full or partial moult. It can last a couple of weeks, then there i s phase when nothing much seems to be happening at all. Next thing, you will notice white quills appearing. Their papery wrappers will fall off and feather appear.

 

Extra protein will help them through a moult.
