We have had our chickens a few weeks now and they are stil not laying..was wondering if they are still too young..Beryl is the only one that as a red face and she is getting extremly noisy..do you think she is getting ready to lay

I would say that it is quite likely if she is redening up and noisy. Is she investigating the nest box Mine like to suss out their laying options and change them quite regularly. You don't say how old they are.

WE were told when we got them that they were pol but were not quite sure

Hi - we have a very similar situation.

 

From reading some of the other threads I think it's fair to say the POL age can differ

depending on the chook breed. Our eldest ones are around 27 weeks, Muffin has been deciding for around 2 weeks now I think she's in no hurry . I have read somewhere some chooks get to 30+ weeks before laying. Someone much more experienced than I will along I'm sure but I think it can really vary. (Not forgetting the days are getting shorter therefore less sunshine so that may be a factor).

Are they crouching? That is sometimes a clue.

beryl seems to be crouching and keep finding yellowy and white sloppy pooh every where as if they have dirohea not sure how to spell that lol
