Evergreens
We adopted our rabbit Peter from a large Pet chain through thier adoption scheme last year along with a Netherland dwarf, who my daughter called Stewie from family guy. Stewie sadly died last new year of Bloat, we loved that little rabbit so much that it was hard to get over him leaving us. Peter has become ill pretty much since then with a variety of bad tummies and chest infections. I also have 2 other rabbits who are quite welll but poor Peter is ill again at the moment, he came out of the vets on Monday last and was back again 2 days later and was given antibiotics for a chest infection. he was obviously anerexic because he is skin and bones at the moment and i mean that he is. he is eating but seems very depressed because hes used to having free run of our garden and now has the run of the kitchen because he is too poorly to be let out. i have just brought Protexin from the internet and its sister product Recovery to see if i can get him strong again. they are as i say on a very strict diet of 60gms of nuggets a day, 30 in the am and 30 in the pm, greens are spring greens and celery with a small piece of broccoli at 2 pm and as much hay as they want , the hay is very fresh and clean. i am at my wits end ireally dont want to lose him. i have brought him indoors now in a verylarge cage even though they are all now in the summer house with a radiator and thick curtains. i just want someone to tell me it will be ok but of course i know no one can. cathybc
sorry to hear about Peter. Sounds like you are very caring. Did the vet want to see him again? I would be inclined to perhaps take him back if he doesn't perk up very soon. Fingers crossed for you.
franklyrabbit
How is Peter today? You are doing the right things - don't heap yourself with guilt (been there)! Peter is nice and warm, has food and lots of care - and is loved by you. Chin up
Evergreens
He is picking up slowly, back at the vets today for checkup, cant let him for free run in the garden so have made an obsticle course in the kitchen for him that we packup at 5pm every night.he's out of the indoor cage for at least 11hrs everyday. the Protexin is going down well, he eats iy very readily. But taking to the vets tonight will make him very stressed so i will expect him to be very quite tonight. Just waiting for the other med to come through the post which will help to replace the Bacteria in his stomach after these antibiotics. franklyrabbit
It certainly sounds as though Peter is picking up - thank you for letting me know. Vet visits are stressful aren't they? For us all! My two, Bonnie and Bandit, went on Saturday for annual check up and myxie jab. Vet wants them back in 3 weeks for the other jab and I'm already stressing about getting them in the basket, starting the car engine, slamming car door, dogs at the vets, etc. In the meantime, they're happily oblivious. Best wishes to Peter Rabbit
Evergreens
Pete's nose starts twitching at 100 miles an hr as soon as he sees the basket. i have just brought in the indoor run and he will have visitors today just for a couple hrs ( my other 2 Ben and Dylan ) that always gets the currants flowing which is good. Peters coat has got a little sheen to it so he doesn't look so tatty today and he spent a good deal of time yesterday cleaning his coat and i think that has to be a good thing.. franklyrabbit
I feel so sorry for you and for Peter. I would definitely change vets because if you go in there again anxious, it will filter through to Peter too plus he is not likely to forget what happened the last time. How is he today? I like the idea of him having visitors! Frank RIP 24.7.09 Bonnie - 2.5 years Bandit - 2.5 years
franklyrabbit
I've just been posted notification by Omlet that 'someone' has filled out the questionnaire and when I went to look - it was YOU! Well, I'm the one just before your entry - I feel like I know you!
Evergreens
Hey Franklyrabbit thanks for asking about Peter, he seems ok and is eating and moving around. I will not take him there again or my other boys, how can i trust her now, he was so badley treated before we adopted him that it must have scared him all over again. But the vet knew all this. My Recovery liquid feed arrived today so im ready just in case. he will now be a kitchen rabbit, i have a large kitchen and he has a dog bed with a thick fleece in the bottom which is what he uses to sleep in in the day and we have made him a "playground". i will keep you posted and its so nice to have someone to talk too about it that understands bunnies. The questionaire yes it was me and i am honoured to be the entry after you and x
