Old Speckled Hen
I want to give this a go. I remember seeing a thread on this but can't find it. Has anybody got a recipe for a home mix?
abwsco
Hi OSH, me and Griffin do it. I use 4 poultry wheat, 2 rolled barley and 1 of cut maize. Also, once a week I put cod liver oil in it as well, just enough to make it shine. Did have a slight drop in egg production whilst they got used to it but they all look really healthy on it. It's also working out cheaper even though the cost of the barley and wheat are not as cheap for me here as elsewhere in the country. Old Speckled Hen
Thanks Anne. When this lot of mash (they hate it!!!) is gone I'll give that a try. They lurve bird food so I might have some success
Griffin
Yep, been doing it for quite a few months now. After initially turning their noses up at it mine are all eating it with gusto now. It's very economical to mix and suits me down to the ground because the chicks can start eating it when I wean them off chick crumb and I don't have to worry about growers eating layers pellets too early. abwsco
Unlike Griffins chickens my lot didn't turn their noses up at first and you would have thought they'd never ever been fed It's levelled off now though
