CrissyH
We have a small flock of 10 chickens aged 16 - 18 weeks. They have been wormed having had gape worm and seemed OK. But this morning the legbar seemed in distress. She is wheezing (sounds like a crying baby) and shaking her head. She is still eating & drinking a bit but cannot settle. Our breeder does not recognise the symptons and we cannot get a vet appointment until tomorrow. Assistance please, please.
chelsea
Sorry to hear she is poorly. I haven't had any experience with gapeworm I'm afraid but the symptoms you describe are sometimes associated with an infestation. What did you worm them with? The vets is a good idea, as if she is sounding wheezy and it is not gapeworm, it is probably a respiratory infection that needs antibiotics. Hope she's well soon. CrissyH
Well it is good news. Lucy trooped off to bed with the rest of the gang last night still making that terrible noise. When we went up this morning all was quiet except for the normal morning bumping and banging around. Naturally we feared the worst but when the pop-hole was opened she was first out, normal as can be. Can only assume that she had something stuck in her throat that we had been unable to see. Somehow she had managed to clear it herself. Thank you to everyone who viewed my post / responded.
