Skiing back on TV

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm happy that the ski racing is back on Eurosport. I am a huge fan of ski racing. I'm a lowest level ski instructor myself, and have had a go at racing giant slalom. I can tell you it is orders of magnitude harder than it looks! I am filled with awe every time I see skiers complete a course.

So I'm really happy even though I won't be able to ski this season, nor race any more myself, due to knee injury.

I did win the last race of my career though :) Here I am on my second run...and no, I don't have a lycra suit! DH also won the men's race on the same day. Any other ski fans on Omlet?

Hi you skiing experts and fans. I wonder if you could help me. My 18 year old daughter is due to start a 5 month stay at Les Deux Alps early next month ,working in a ski resort. What sort of footwear would she need for the evenings? I believe that it is quite a lively place, with lots of bars and some clubs. She seems to think that her Ugg boots would be ok. Surely the snow underfoot would soak and ruin them? She will be taking her snowboard boots for outside boarding but not very good for inside a bar? She also will have flat black shoes for work time-in the hotel restaurant. She cannot take too much as she has a weight restriction on her flight. I also understand that prices to buy stuff in the resort are very high, so she is trying to get as much beforehand as she can. Any advice for an harrassed mum, please. :D

I'd suggest a decent pair of walking or "apres-ski" boots which she could wear on the flight to save weight - we do this when we go skiing. People really don't mind you wearing boots in pubs and clubs and restaurants in ski resorts!

Merrell make some nice waterproof boots with good grippy soles that also look quite funky but other people do them e.g. The North Face.

Thanks for your help. I have now purchased a pair of snowboarding boots, a pair of apres ski boots (from the site recommended-many thanks, it had some good prices), thermal clothing, gloves and yet another gilet-daughter's choice. I think that she will still need some goggles and sun specs. Heck, this is some expensive gap year work/holiday experience. Add the new camera, make up and other stuff, and it's getting a bit scary.Oh, forgot the new ski jacket. I hope that my daughter enjoys herself and stays the course? :?:

You're welcome. Skiing is expensive and living in ski resorts is expensive too, unfortunately, although even in the expensive ones you can find more economical ways of living and I'm sure she will do that. I do hope she enjoys it there!
